Background

Ocean-based climate solutions, such as renewable ocean energy, green shipping, and marine carbon dioxide removal, could potentially contribute up to 21 per cent of the emissions reductions and removals necessary to limit global warming to 1.5°C by 2050.

However, rapid market development relies heavily on research and commercialization of innovations in ocean and climate technology.

About the summit

The Ocean Climate Innovation Summit will gather leaders from research, technology, finance, government, and industry to advance the science, technology, and innovation required to achieve scalable commercial ocean-climate solutions across renewable ocean energy, marine transportation, and marine carbon dioxide removal.

The Summit will address the commercial needs and opportunities to bring advancements in science and technology to accelerate ocean-based climate solutions, with a particular focus in satellite remote sensing, in-situ ocean sensing, robotics and autonomy, and artificial intelligence.

Leaders in research, early-stage technology companies, and industry operators will discuss opportunities and strategies to advance commercial solutions.
