The contributions of Martha Crago, who helped found the Ocean Frontier Institute (OFI), and Barb Neis, an OFI researcher at Memorial University of Newfoundland, have been recognized through their naming as Members of the Order of Canada.

University received the Order of Canada in recognition for her contributions
to research and innovation, especially in the area of ocean science. Dr. Crago is the former Vice President of Research at Dalhousie University and in that role served as a key architect for the creation of OFI and served as its first Chair of the OFI Executive Council.
