From business and finance, to governments, civil society, and research – the ocean community is set to unite next week for The Economist World Ocean Summit and Expo. The annual event is designed to inspire bold thinking and new partnerships that trigger effective action towards driving growth of the sustainable ocean economy.
Three delegates will represent the Ocean Frontier Institute (OFI): Chief Executive Officer and Scientific Director Dr. Anya Waite, Chief Innovation Officer Eric Siegel, and Innovation and Commercialization Strategist Akash Rastogi.
Siegel says the key goal for OFI is to “share insights and innovations from our work with leaders in finance, policy, investing, and businesses operating in the blue economy.”
This year, the summit will focus on marine industries including shipping, fishing, aquaculture, energy, and tourism.
In addition to meeting with senior dignitaries, Siegel and Dr. Waite will participate in two key events at the summit.
Dr. Waite will participate as a panelist in the event “Combining data to unlock better ocean health,” focusing on how to harness the power of ocean data to take real action on protecting the ocean. Siegel will moderate the event “Technology to restore ocean health”, which will explore the integral role of technology in sustainable and profitable business practices for the ocean economy.
“OFI’s goal is to facilitate frontier ocean science to inform global industry and policy by focusing on three of the largest and most critical issues of our time – achieving net zero, protecting biodiversity, and sustaining bioresources,” says Dr. Waite.
The World Ocean Summit will take place in Lisbon, Portugal from February 27 to March 1, 2023.
