Canadian Ocean Literacy Coalition
Empowering Canadians to better understand, value, and care for the ocean.

About the program

Launched in 2018, the Canadian Ocean Literacy Coalition (COLC) is a centre for ocean literacy collaboration, research, and innovation.

In April 2024, COLC became an affiliated program of the Ocean Frontier Institute, led by Dalhousie University, serving as COLC's new administrative home.

COLC’s work is guided by three priority areas:

Education & Engagement
Initiatives to strengthen societal ocean knowledge, connections, and pathways for action.

Research & Impact
Marine social science and transdisciplinary research, exploring the diverse dimensions, drivers, and impacts of ocean literacy initiatives.

Leadership & Advocacy
Collaborative thought leadership and impact initiatives to bridge science, policy, and societal transformation, nationally and internationally.
