The Ocean Frontier Institute will fully fund two students, one from Dalhousie and one from Memorial University of Newfoundland, to participate in this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
The course departs Valparaíso in Chile on May 1, 2022 and ends in Palau on August 25, 2022. Participating students will be a part of the crew and will study topics on ocean, climate, and society related to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, especially 'SDG 14 Life Below Water' and 'SDG 13 Climate Action'. This interdisciplinary course will focus on the main topics of:
Bachelor and Masters students (except first-year Bachelor students) in the following faculties:
Dalhousie University (one placement): Agriculture, Arts & Social Sciences, Engineering, Law, Management, Science
Memorial University of Newfoundland (one placement): Humanities & Social Sciences, Science

In addition, the applicants must submit a 3. communications plan on how they will promote the OFI before, during, and after the expedition (e.g. blog, documentary, etc.; max. 500 words).
Application deadline September 30th, 2021. Shortlisted candidates may be invited to an interview. Selection will be made by staff at the Ocean Frontier Institute, and only those who were selected will get notified.
The successful applicants are responsible for checking whether and how many course credit points the participating faculties will grant. The successful applicants are also responsible for making travel arrangements within the funding provided by the OFI.
